We should recommend ALT combinations to be used (ALT-I for italic etc.)
Also < and > shouldn't be used, because < and > are not always on two
seperate keys. '>' is 'Shift-<' on a German keyboard, so you can't have a
Shift-'<' combination. (Check the ' if you don't understand me right
away.)
Evan K. Langlois:
>Re-Do should be ^G
No way. Leave CTRL-G for "Search Next". If you want to undo something use
the Undo key. I don't care if you use CTRL, ALT or Shift in combination
with Undo, but changing CTRL-G doesn't make sense.
Waldi Ravens:
>If a user wants to have ^Z for quitting apllications,
If a user doesn't want to stick to the standard, then tell him to buy a PC
or whatever. A standard is a set of rules. You don't make rules and then
let people decide whether or not they wan't to stick to them. Rules are
made for everybody to stick to them. Period.
Jesus, why in the world are we trying to establish a standard, if we can't
get the user to stick to it? If you allow the user to change the
shortcuts, you'll get a lot of programmers to use this as an excuse for
not sticking to the standard. And then you might as well forget about the
standard in the first place.
Dan Wilga:

IMO it's not too hard to type CTRL-U with one hand. And since windows are
cycled far more often than they are closed, cycling should be left where
it is on CTRL-W.
If you find hard to type CTRL-U then try using your little finger for CTRL
and your index finger for U.

If you're using an alternative OS which doesn't stick to the standard,
then blame the programmer of the "alternative" and don't blame the
standard.

I'm sorry. This is the result of a misunderstanding. Of course I want the
CTRL-H combination for "Abandon changes".
K. Hollis:

But users should be told, that re-assigning keyboard equivalents should
only be changed if it's absolutely inevitable.
Annius Groenink:
I'm for Shift-CTRL-A for "Select all". Let's vote.
>That's why I suggested to keep Control + M as well as ShiftControl S.
I disagree to that. *One* shortcut for *one* function. No two ways about
it.

>Weird argument...
Maybe. But why use two ands when one could be enough? And then, if
Sh-CTRL-C is "Append to clipboard", then I'd expect somthing like "Paste
from..." to happen when I type Sh-CTRL-V.
Christian Nieber:
>Not quite. papyrus supports:

And I've told Ulli ten million times to exchange Sh-Home and CTRL-Home.
Papyrus is the only PRG I know, that does it like it does it.
Stephen Norman:

Yuck. No thanks.

No thanks. Don't call us, we'll call you. :-) Bye-bye.

I support this method. I think T. Miller also supports it. That makes
three. Anyone else?

I can't remember ever seeing that. I think you forgot find and replace
previous.
>"always do it this way or we will not endorse your application".
This is the way, that I want things. As soon as we have the new standard,
everybody *has to* stick to it.
Bye for now.
